Desert Valley Museum

Desert Valley Museum

In 2003 Mallinson Architects produced a proposal for a new major museum near the Giza Pyramids to display the endangered treasures of Egypt as, part of a conservation recording initiative with the Egypt Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Mallinson Architects and Jane Wernick Engineers developed a number of structural solutions to display the museum exhibits, including:

• An innovative dome structure
• An optimum structure to cover the tombs
• Optimising sunlight access and control to the tombs
• Optimising for natural ventilation

Mallinson Architects and Fulcrum developed new solutions to light the artefacts using green technology, and passive ventilation and cooling methods with the earth tube.
