Sudan's Cultural Heritage and Museums Festival

Sudan's Cultural Heritage and Museums Festival

The Sudan Cultural Heritage and Museums Festival 2014 celebrated Sudan’s rich cultural heritage, while promoting an awareness and understanding of its safeguarding. The event was organised by the British Council, in cooperation with Sudan’s National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums, the Sudan Archaeological Society, the British Museum, and sponsored by local parties. Mallinson Architects were Project Consultant to the British Council for this event, responsible for developing the festival programme, managing the programme implementation, and producing a new film and exhibition as major features within the festival programme.

The festival involved a range of events that brought together different social groups and ages, including museum tours, an archaeological camp for schoolchildren, lecture presentations, exhibitions, film screenings, musical performances, and the development and distribution of a number of publications. The festival activities took place over a total eleven days in February 2014, including six days in Khartoum, followed by four days in collaboration with the Red Sea Festival in Port Sudan. The festival completed with an evening programme in the historic coral port town of Suakin, facilitating the festival’s outreach to Sudan’s smaller communities.
